Describing God
Frances Chan reminds us that God goes way beyond our comprehension. Frances states that it would appear that John is having trouble describing what he sees. It had to be rather mind boggling and awe inspiring to say the least. But I wonder if at the same time it was a wee bit fearful and intimidating? Think for a moment what it would be like to be standing before the throne in the presence of the Most Holy one! What feelings, emotions, begin to surface? Now realize that each time we are on our knees in humble prayer, we are in the presence of the Lord. We as His chosen creation have the privilege of entering His presence. That is very humbling for me. All too often I take all that for granted and I don’t really stop to think about, just, whose presence I am in. I wonder if that would change my prayer life, if I really grasped the totality of this, that when I am on my knees in prayer, I am in the presence of the Creator! I suspect it would! And it should! If you were ever present aware that you were in the presence of Holy God when in prayer, how might your prayer life look different? Share with us, here on the blog sight how it might change.
So true, I don't often really think about whos presence I am boldly and sometime not the most respectfully coming before.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading and now thinking about it . . . the song "Only Imagine" by Mercy Me comes to mind:
I can only imagine what it will be like when I walk by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see when your face is before me -- I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine when that day comes and I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I will do is forever forever worship You
I can only imagine
The truth is . . . I need to imagine. I need to remember who I am talking to and into whos presents I am coming. however, I also need to remember even though He is the creator, the most holy, He is also Abba Father, Daddy and he loves me (us) as most of us do our children or grand children :)
When I was teaching, I used to tell my 4 year olds when we would pray to begin our mornings, I would tell them to close their eyes so we could talk to Jesus, then I would say, imagine that you are sitting on God's lap, and He is giving you a great big good morning hug, just like your mommy and daddy do, and imagine that he is telling you how much He loves you and how much He wants you to talk to Him about everything, and then we would pray all of our prayer requests. But I would look up sometimes at their little faces and they would all have these wonderful smiles as if they really were in the presence of God. That is what it would be like, that innocense of children being able to so easily be in His presence with out feeling any guilt or shame. So, I try to remember that for myself when life is really throwing lemons at me, I try to imagine sitting on His lap getting that hug and Him telling me it is all going to be okay. Like that song says, until that day, we can only imagine.
